When did Isaiah see the glory of Jesus the Messiah?

What does John 12:38–41 mean? When did Isaiah see the glory of Jesus the Messiah?

John 12

38

This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet:

“Lord, who has believed our message?

And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”

Isaiah 53:1

Who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

John 12

41

Isaiah said these things because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about Him.

John refers to Isaiah 53:1 when he speaks about Isaiah seeing the glory of Jesus; it is not the vision of Isaiah 6

Isaiah 6 is about the commission of Isaiah by Yahweh.

Isaiah 6:1

I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of His robe filled the temple.

Isaiah frequently makes use of the word Lord to address Yahweh.

Jesus was exalted after He accomplished the will of Yahweh and was raised to life.

Psalm 8:5

You made him a little lower than the angels

John 17:5

Now, Father, glorify Me in Your presence with that glory I had with You before the world existed.

Isaiah 52:13

See, My Servant will act wisely; He will be raised and lifted up and greatly exalted.

Jesus the Messiah is the image and likeness of Yahweh, whose face no one can ever see

John 1:18

No one has ever seen God. The One and Only Son-- the One who is at the Father's side-- He has revealed Him.

John 12:45

And the one who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.

John 14:7

If you had known Me, you would also have known My Father. From now you know Him, and have seen Him.

Colossians 1:15

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

2 Corinthians 4:6

For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God's glory in the face of Jesus the Messiah.

1 Timothy 6

14

until the appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ,

15

which the blessed and only Sovereign One—the King of kings and Lord of lords—will bring about in His own time.

16

He alone is immortal and dwells in unapproachable light. No one has ever seen Him, nor can anyone see Him.

Read: Did Moses or the Israelites ever see Yahweh's face?

Read: Yahweh and the Lord

Like Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel, who went up and saw the God of Israel, Isaiah saw Yahweh.

Isaiah 6

1

I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted; and the train of His robe filled the temple.

5

Then I said:

for my eyes have seen the King,

the LORD of Hosts.
